The intriguing marriage of mobile phones and tripods

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to have a reliable tripod to keep your mobile phone in just the place where you want it to be?

As mobile phones have grown more versatile and ubiquitous, tripods have also morphed from the stodgy, reliable three-legged supports to an amazing collection that pairs well with selfie sticks, old timers, and ones that can be formed to fit your every situation. These phones and tripods look like they were made for each other, and indeed they have been.

These marriages made in industry hold many advantages for growing photographers and videographers. Unlike gimbals that love to be constantly on the move,  there tripods offer their phones a very grounded stability, but not the old-fashioned one. They don't need level ground. Some  wrap around fencing, branches or whatever else is available. Others look like octopi. Some pair with ring lights to give their phones that extra glow.

So, come along while we explore this emerging world.

How do we choose the best tripod for your mobile phone?

Like any good match-maker, we begin by studying. Lots, and lots of studying. We go through hundreds and hundreds of reviews, and articles, and we don't forget the ratings. All this so that you can find a good match for your phone.

Take a look at this one for starters...

Sensyne 10'' Ring Light with 50'' Extendable Tripod Stand, LED Circle Lights with Phone Holder

Inexpensive and excellent for video conferencing and presentations where the presenters are seated

What we like about it...

This tripod, made of plastic has appealed to people because it is lightweight, easy to setup and comes with a ring light. All seemed pleased with the ringlight, even those disappointed with the actual tripod. Its range of lighting settings adds versatility and improves the quality of videos online. It also works well for upper body and head portraits.

What you should know...

Some mentioned that their phones did not fit well inside the ring light. So double check the size of your phone especially if it is a larger one. Many liked the plastic design of the tripod while a few did not think it was strong enough. It works well for a given location, but if you have to travel a lot, you may want to consider one of the metal tripods.
